Subprogram 3: Biohybrid Systems
Photopharmacology, the method of selectively activating and deactivating photoswitchable molecules with light for target drug delivery, was developed in part in the Feringa laboratories. Since our groundbreaking 2013 Nature Chemistry publication on optical control of antibacterial activity, the field has grown exponentially. In our Biohybrid Systems subprogram, we closely collaborate with prof. Wiktor Szymanski at the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy. Current interests include:
Photoswitchable therapeutic agents
Docking studies and structure-based design
Photocaging
Medical imaging
